JBS Souderton’s Electricity Goes Completely Carbon-Free

Our Souderton, Penn., Regional Beef facility was recognized for matching 100 percent of its electricity usage with carbon-free energy credits in 2019.

Through leading U.S. energy provider Constellation’s Carbon-Free Electricity Plan, the electricity Souderton purchases is matched with Emissions-Free Energy Certificates (EFECs), making the facility’s electricity completely carbon-free.

EFECs represent the emissions-free attributes of energy-generating sources (including new and existing solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, wind, hydro, nuclear, tidal energy and wave energy) that do not directly emit any greenhouse gases from combustion. All EFECs are tracked and reported through the PJM Environmental Information Services’ Generation Attribute Tracking System (GATS) and are third-party verified when retired to ensure no double counting of emission-free attributes. The EFECs purchased by JBS USA Souderton for 2019 were 100 percent sourced from nuclear facilities located in the PJM Interconnection.

When presenting our 2019 EFEC certificate, Constellation commended JBS USA’s voluntary purchase of EFECs as a demonstration of our commitment to sustainability through the reduction of Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
